Inspired by the comfort of air travel, designers Laurence Li and Chico Wang begin doodling and sketching clothing that they would enjoy wearing while traveling from their hometown of Canada to New York City. As designers showing at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week one can only imagine the numerous trips that were taken in order to achieve this spectacular fashion show!
As each of the attendees gathered in Stage D of Chelsea Piers, I wondered how Laurence & Chico were going to add vibrancy to this completely white room. When the first model walked out, she was sporting a neon green puffer jacket, which perfectly captured the concept of comfort wear. Before I knew the inspiration behind this collection I had a hunch that it had to do something with sleep or comfort- the give aways were the pillows that were displayed on the outfits and the headpieces that resembled sleep masks.
The models themselves looked like dolls, their makeup was dramatic – glitter, sparkles, and jewels around their eyes – while wearing over-sized square, black wigs.
After the show concluded, the models stood there, as if they were an artistic display – the directors of the show opened the floor, meaning we were free to gallivant throughout the runway- of course I had to take the opportunity! Each model had a unique look, they were absolutely lovely! The show in its entirety was wonderful! I hope to see more from this fashion house in the future!
