Gucci is under fire again, after being culturally insensitive to the Sikh culture. Upon the head of a white model was a, what looked to be styled as, blue Indy turban.
The head scarf was described as an “Indy Full Turban,” retailing for $790. The scarf was sold on Gucci’s website and Nordstrom’s website. Since recieving backlash, the accessory has been marked as “sold out” on Nordstrom’s website and removed from the brand’s e-commerce website.
The Sikh Coalition expressed their disappointment via Twitter, “The Sikh turban is not a fashion accessory, but it’s also a sacred religious article of faith. We hope more can be done to recognize this critical context. #appropriation.”
