FINALLY, Barbie is getting a curvy makeover! There have been tons of changes in the Doll World – from Barbie’s different range of skin tones to her chic short hair – girls that come from all walks of life are being represented, and we couldn’t be more proud! Recently, Ashley Graham, best known for being the first plus size model to grace the cover Sports Illustrated: Swimsuit Issue, has gotten her own body-positive Barbie! While attending the Glamour Women of the Year summit in Los Angeles she unveiled her newest doll!
When Mattel approached the model about the idea for the Barbie, she only had one strict request: her thighs had to be touching. She wants the doll to be a true representation of real women.
“It was important that the Barbie resembled me as much as possible,” says Graham. “The thighs touching was one way to show young girls that it’s okay for your thighs to touch, despite society saying that a ‘thigh gap’ is more beautiful.”
